The Son of Demeter arrives..

Nikkie lowered her cup. "Oh. Oh, I'm sorry for bringing it up," she looked down into her milk, feeling a little guilty for bringing up such a topic. She forgot that most people in this camp had lost someone in their life, somehow. "I can't understand how you feel," she muttered, "All I can say is I'm sorry for your loss. Though sorry can't bring you dad back." She kept her eyes down. She had all three sisters and both parents still alive back home. And it had apparently happened so recently, he came here because of the Minotaur. The same beast that killed his father. The wound would still be fresh. Though, she hoped he killed the monster, out of revenge, instinct, or just the fact that it was that ugly. She didn't know and didn't care to ask about it and drag up more painful memories, so she sat in silence.

Jacob looked up after he heard Nikkie apologize for bringing up the topic. He noticed that she looked guilty, and obviously, that meant none of her family had suffered the fate of his own father. Jacob smiled slightly and reached over, putting a hand on her shoulder and exclaiming, ''It's not your fault, and as you said, I can't bring my dad back. He would want me to continue on and carry on my own.''. With that, Jacob got up, went around the table and gave her a hug, to say that things were okay. Nevertheless, his face was bright red the whole time.

Nikkie's face heated up when Jacob hugged her. She tapped his arm to let him know that she was hugging for now, and gently pulled away. "Well.... Off that dreary subject. Now, what else about you can you talk about that won't make everyone hear cry." She looked around at the pavilion at the campers. "Well, at least me," she grinned foolishly. I'm sure that most people here are used to death. At least on some level. Either that or they handle things like that better than me.

Jacob pulled away after a few minutes and, seeing that he was finished, decided to wait for Nikkie. He took a seat beside her as she questioned what else he could talk about that wouldn't cause a sentimental reaction. Jacob turned to look around the pavilion as he thought for a few seconds. Thinking of something, he turned back and answered her. ''I guess since there's not really anything to talk about, we could leave and get on with our ..date'' Jacob exclaimed, blushing as he emphasized on the last word.

Nikkie looked down at her near empty plate, popped the last raspberry in her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. After a few moments she shrugged. "Eh, might as well. I'm full and done." Clearing away her place she trotted out of the dining area. She turned in the direction of the beach and went on. She was agitated, but did her best not to show it. Of course being Nikkie and not showing emotion was a difficult thing to do. She had less control than her youngest sister. Nikkie shook her head to clear her restless thoughts. What happened if he kissed her again? What'd she talk about? She doubted he even knew about anime, let alone like it. What would happen on her first "date"? Quotations because staying at home isn't a date, she added to herself. Those and other questions came and went through her mind. Finally she squared her shoulders and looked ahead. Didn't matter. Not really. Right? She felt like rubbing her forehead, like she could ward of the oncoming headache, but she resisted the urge. Things are so much simpler in movies and stuff like that. And the Aphrodite kids get in and out of relationships like a snap of the fingers. "To the beach it was?" she asked looking back for Jacob.

Jacob cleared his table, then followed Nikkie out of the pavilion. As they were walking, Jacob had been in deep thought. This is the first date I've ever been on. What should I talk to her about? What if I accidentally kiss her again? She would probably never consider talking to me again. I probably shouldn't talk to her about sports or anything. That would make her think I'm one of those guys who spend all their day thinking about sports. Should I even consider asking her...to be my girlfriend? I know I've only been her less than a day, but I really like her a lot. She's fun to be with, and she always makes me feel..funny inside. I guess I'll have to figure these things out on my own. Oh Aphrodite, you're the Goddess of Love, please show me somehow that Nikkie likes me..more than a friend . As Jacob continued to silently ask Aphrodite for help, he answered Nikkie's question. ''That's right'' he said as they left the main area of the camp.

Nikkie nodded and looked back ahead. She thought about racing to the beach again, but her energy to keep up a good pace for that long was gone. Actually she was sure she'd be out of energy very soon. This, then a few minutes at campfire, then bed sweet bed. She smiled tiredly at that. She managed to completely clear her head and began to think of non-related topics to hopefully keep her energy up a bit. When sand shifted under her feet she looked around a tad confused of why she was at the beach. Oh yeah. Date. That's right. She collapsed on the sand and laid back on her elbows listening to the waves and watching the sun. "Say hello again to the beach," she announced loudly.

Jacob continued to ask Aphrodite for a sign as he and Nikkie entered the beach. He watched as Nikkie collapsed on the sand and relaxed as she watched the sun. She introduced the beach again as Jacob also took a seat next to her. He watched the waves for a few minutes before exclaiming, ''I know we're probably both inexperienced at going on dates, this being our first, so I guess we should just act normal and everything should work out.'' In his mind, Jacob was still asking Aphrodite for help in impressing Nikkie, and for any signs to show she liked him back.

"Probably?" Nikkie chuckled. That seemed like he was giving each other to much credit. "So we've covered the family topic," she said. What else to talk about? She thought of his parentage. "Soooo.... You garden? I'm guessing here. Did you live on a farm? Or did you just have a small family garden? And if you did have a farm, what did you grow there? Did you have any animals? Well, I suppose you would at least have a dog, right? What was mortal life like? I've experienced normal life too, but it is always interesting to know how other people got here. Did you have any other family other than your dad? Like brothers or sis...." Nikkie stopped short. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up the topic of your dad again."

Jacob chuckled lightly as Nikkie bombarded him with questions. His smile partially depleted when she mentioned his dad. He shook his head as she apologized for bringing up the topic. ''No, it's alright,I don't mind. As for your questions. Yes I do garden a lot. I didn't grow up on a farm, I grew up in a normal house like most people. We had a large garden in our backyard, and that's where I spent most of my extra time. I had a dog when I was younger, and his name was Rex. It was pretty normal living a mortal life until the monsters started appearing. As for my family, I grew up never really knowing my mother. I was an only child, and I pretty much experienced everything a demi-god would normally face.'' Jacob answered as he continued to look out toward the lake. After a few seconds, Jacob said, ''Now we've covered the family topic, would you mind if I asked you something?''.

"Shoot," Nikkie said. She thought about that for a moment before turning to him. "Not literally, 'kay?" she teased. She looked back at the lake. Considering how the day was going and now Jacob's question, she could pretty much guess what it was going to be based on. "You're going to ask something along the lines of this relationship aren't you? I'm not great at reading people but I'm good enough to tell this much. Let's see... What have we covered...." She counted on her fingers, "We both like each other. That probably has to be a major thing in this, huh? And," she paused, "I think that's it actually. So unless relationships are much more complicated than I thought..." shrugging she looked at Jacob. "Sorry, I interupted you, didn't I? Sorry about that. That's a bad habit of mine. Please continue."

Jacob chuckled lightly as Nikkie joked that she hadn't meant shoot literally. As he was about to speak, Nikkie suddenly guessed that his question was going to be about their relationship. He blushed as she counted all the things they had covered. She basically said that they liked each other and that was it. He smiled slightly when she realized that she had interrupted him ad apologized. He smiled again and exclaimed, ''Don't worry about it. Returning back to the question, yes I was going to ask about the relationship between us. I know we only met today, but I would say we've become close friends. Since we both like each other, I'm only asking if you would....be my girlfriend?'', Jacob said as his whole face turned red.

"Wasn't that already covered earlier today?" she asked. No, he meant to ask you then he kissed you remember? "Oh, yeah that's right... Huh, amazing how fast things move," she muttered to herself. Her emotions were really spinning out of control now. "Kind of fast, don't you think?" she was going for casual. It was all happening over the course of one day. Wasn't exactly normal. Then again, their lives weren't exactly normal. And again it wasn't like they were confessing undying love. If that was happening then she would slow it down. She looked over at Jacob's face and laughed. "I swear, if you were to jump in the lake right now it would boil. As for your question, yes." With that she leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Her face flushed again for what seemed the millionth time that day, but this time she didn't hide. He's just as embarrassed and awkward as I am, why not be embarrassed and awkward together.

Jacob was silent as Nikkie questioned that they had already covered this topic. It was then that Jacob realized Nikkie was talking about the ''incident'' that had happened in the forest. Jacob realized that he might have been taking things too fast. She has a point. I mean, we're only 13 years old and dating someone would be a bit different. On the other hand, not all mortals are the children of gods Jacob quietly considered the pros and cons on both sides before deciding to stick to his plan. His face immediately brightened up when Nikkie answered his question with a ''yes''. What she did next really surprised him. He face switched to a confused one, as she started leaning over toward him. He froze as she gave him a kiss on his cheek. He was sure he was blushing more than ever before. He shouted, ''Yes!'', and started to run around in joy. ''She kissed me!'', ''She really kissed me!'', he shouted in joy as he jumped in the air a few times. In his mind, he thanked Aphrodite for all her help. He had never been this happy since he was with...his father. He finally calmed down, although his face was still visibly surprised and happy. Jacob reached his hand toward her, ''I'll help you up, and if it's alright, maybe...walk you to your cabin?''.

Nikkie watched in surprise as Jacob began jumping around. She waited until he calmed down. "You okay now?" she asked a smile on her face. She took his offered hand and hauled herself up. "Thank you," she smirked, "My good sir," her tone was light and teasing. She made her voice as pompous and arrogant, "I would be honored," she kept her face as aristocratic as possible. After a minute or so her chin began quivering and she doubled over laughing. "I'm sorry!" she gasped for breath, "Oh, I couldn't help myself." She took a deep breath, "Sorry about that," she glanced at the sun which hovered over the horizon. "Yeah, going to the cabins would be nice, before I fall asleep on my feet." She began to walk off in the direction of the cabins.

As Nikkie hauled herself up, Jacob still had the unconceivable ''happy'' grin on his face. He laughed as Nikkie imitated pompous and arrogant people, saying how she was honored and changed her tone to a light and teasing one. Jacob kept laughing as she kept her face as aristocratic as possible. After a minute or so, she too joined him in the laughing as she couldn't keep from making fun of her routine. They looked out at the horizon for a few seconds, then started toward the cabins. As they were walking, Jacob took her hand in his, and they continued on their way. When they reached her cabin, Jacob let go of her hand and leaning forward, gently kissed her in her cheek. ''I know normally the girl is supposed to kiss the guy goodnight, but alls fair in love and..like? I guess".

"I believe the term is all's fair ing love and war. But close enough. Thank you for the..." she paused for a moment,"interesting, and eventful day today. It not everyday you find you first boyfriend." Or have your first kiss. "As for the kiss good night, I don't think it really matters who kisses who. Ya know?" She yawned and stretched. "Alright, sun's down so that means I'm down. Night," she gave a halfhearted wave and trudged up the stairs to her cabin.

Jacob smiled and waved as he watched Nikkie trudge into her cabin. He turned around and thought to himself as he walked to his cabin. Wow, this has really been an eventful day. First, I reach this camp and meet new friends. Then, I get to meet Shade. Finally, I cap things off with going on a date with the girl that I love and I confess my feelings for her. Who would have guessed she liked me back? . Jacob smiled to himself as he thought of Nikkie while he continued walking. When he reached his cabin, he looked at the moon, whispered a silent thank you to Aphrodite, followed by a goodnight to his father and mother and he entered. As he walked in, he changed, brushed his teeth, and went straight to bed.
