The Son of Demeter arrives..

[Jacob Adams]

Jacob looked at his hand as Nikkie brushed his hand off. She stated that both nymphs and naids were beautiful and had notoriously caused men to die trying to be with them. Jacob sighed and exclaimed ''Look, I apologize, but I'm not trying to flatter you. I really think your'e beautiful. Just give me a chance'' He looked at her.

[Sawyar]

"Apologize for what? There's nothing to apologize for. And give what chance?" she twirled around, "beauty isn't the only thing to look at ya know," she felt the blood rush to her face as she continued to think of his last sentence. She ducked her head to avoid him seeing it. She had been called cute before, but that was only when friends or family admired her outfits, never had she been beautiful. It was embarrassing and very sweet at the same time. Head still down she muttered almost sulkily, "Flattery has an annoying habit of working."

Jacob watched as Nikkie twirled around and stated that beauty wasn't the only thing to look at. Jacob lowered his head and stared at the ground for a few seconds. Ouch, I guess she doesn't believe that I really like her Jacob thought as he sighed a little. He raised his head just in time to hear her sulkily mutter ''Flattery has an annoying habit of working''. Jacob smile had now been replaced by a frown, and he suddenly felt guilt. Normally, Jacob was usually positive person, but he rarely felt such negative emotions as the one he was feeling now.He sighed once more, and looked back at Nikkie, ''Alright, I don't just like you for your beauty, but your really fun to be with. Plus your the first person that I met at this camp, and you were nice enough to show me around. I understand if you don't believe me, but I just want to tell you right now. I really really like you. ''Jacob said as he poured out all his feelings.

Talk about bluntness, Nikkie thought. "Sorry," Nikkie said, "I didn't mean to offend you. I was just going to say that beauty doesn't define a person." She glanced up at him. "Sorry," she apologized again. "I'm making this more awkward and embarrassing then it needs to be aren't I? I have a habit of blowing things out proportion," she shrugged. Nikkie didn't know what else to say. Truth be told she was stunned.

Jacob's frown was replaced by a confused sign as he wondered why Nikkie was apologizing. I guess I confused her with my bluntness Jacob thought as Nikkie explained that she had not meant to offend him, but she was jut stating that beauty doesn't define a person. Jacob smiled when Nikkie started to apologize again, fearing that she was making things awkward. Jacob smiled, got up from his spot, and took Nikkie's hands in his. ''You don't need to apologize for anything, I was being too blunt when I said those words in the first place. But I meant them, and I just wanted to find out if you felt the same about me'' Jacob explained as he looked straight into Nikkie's eyes.

Now she flushed heavily. "Judging by the redness of my face I'd say I probably have a crush," she pulled her hand back, "and excuse me if I'm a little awkward." She then burst out laughing. "Sorry, to tense of an atmosphere, I had to do something. And that was the first thing that came to mind. So!" she spun around, "To the lake once again!" taking off she went back to the lake and dove under. Mentally, she collapsed. She had no idea how to act in a relationship. All she knew were mangas and animes and they wouldn't help. Wonderful. Show me a magical camp, I take to it like a duck to water. Give me a first relationship, it's oil and water.

Jacob smiled slightly as Nikkie tried to break the awkwardness of the moment between them. She burst out laughing, spun around, and took off to the lake. Jacob watched as she dived under. Thats better, I guess dad's advice isn't going to always be as useful as I thought Jacob thought. Smiling, he decided to join Nikkie, as he jumped into the water. While swimming, he noticed Nikkie in a deep trail of thought, as if she was worried and confused about something. Jacob realized that the events between them, might have caused her some confusion. Jacob smiled and thought of how he could help. Nodding to himself, Jacob swam up, surfaced, and decided to lie down on the sand until Nikkie came out.

Nikkie rolled in the water so she faced the surface. She watched bubbles float up to the top. She was calmer. She understood why all the Poseidon children spent all their time here. The currents were relaxing. I'm a child of the sun god, and here I am relaxing under the water. She shrugged, parentage doesn't define the child's entire personality. Realizing then she was in need of air, she paddled to the surface. Trending water she looked back up at the sun. Virtually no time had passed. Figures, she looked back at the beach. I never did get shooting practice in, maybe I should do that now. Then she remembered she left the bow at the arena. Groaning, her eyes rolled upward. Man!... Well... It won't take long to get it.... Eh, I can go get it when I get out for practice.

Jacob sat up when he heard splashing in the lake, and saw Nikkie relaxing on the surface. She looked as if she was still in deep thought, so Jacob decided to relax again. A little bit later, he once again heard splashing and looked at the lake. He heard a faint groaning and saw that Nikkie looked as if she had forgotten something. Jacob stood up, stretched, and decided to tell her he was going for a walk. Jacob strode over to the shore, and called out, ''Nikkie, I'm going for a walk, want to join me?''.

"Well," Nikkie thought about it. She could get her bow while she was at it. Shrugging she swam back to the shore again. "Let's us go!" the last few minutes forgotten she snatched up her knife buckled it on, jammed her feet in her shoes and trotted off. "As long as we stop at the arena, and eventually come back." Pausing she turned on her heel and came back for her quiver. Taking out of her arrows she tipped the quiver over and shook out whatever sand was in it. Pulling it over her head and shoulder she placed the arrows back in. "Alright now we can go."

Jacob nodded when Nikkie said that she needed to stop at the arena, and that they would eventually come back. Jacob stretched a little, while Nikkie was collecting all her things. When she had finished, they started to leave, but stopped again when she went back to get her quiver. Jacob waited patiently as Nikkie pulled her quiver hover her head and shoulder, and placed her arrows back. They started off again as she turned around and joined him . ''Is there any special place you want to go ''? Jacob asked as they started to leave the lake area.

Nikkie thought for a moment. "Hmmm... Nope! I don't care where I go." Swinging her arms wildly she walked back to the main body of the camp. I can pick up my bow, and shoot some dummies there. Then I can come back here and practice other types of shots. Either way I get in so good practice. She then grinned, half mischevious, half evil. Well, not evil, just up to no good, she paused for a quick second. That's wonderful, now I'm judging what emotion my smiles are. Rolling her eyes she continued. Oh well, she hurried forward and then turned to face Jacob. She had to be careful, because now she walked backwards, and that didn't always end well for her. "Jacob, show 'bout we have a shooting competition at the arena when we get there?"

Jacob stretched a little, as he and Nikkie returned to the camp.. Nikkie had been swinging her arms wildly, and Jacob chuckled at her care-free nature. As they continued to walk together, Jacob had been in deep thought. Nikkie's really pretty. Plus, she's always fun to be around and has a really nice personality. I know we both like each other, but should I consider asking her..to be my girlfriend? Nah, I don't think shes likes me that much. Jacob snapped out of his thoughts when Nikkie proposed they have a shooting competition at the arena. He smiled and exclaimed ''Sure, but um..could we go near the forest a little bit later? I need to tell you something''.

Nikkie raised a questioning eyebrow at Jacob's request. "Sure, but if it is to use the trees as target practice, I strongly advise against it. Like, seriously, never shoot at the trees. Nymphs seem to have better aim then most people think." She shrugged, "I speak from experience," shrugging again she turned around carefully and continued on. They were passing the cabins at the moment and she glanced over at them. What an eventful day this has turned out to be.

Jacob chuckled when Nikkie strongly advised to not use the tress as target practise. ''I assure you, it's not about using the trees as targets'' Jacob said, as she turned around and they continued their walk to the arena. Soon enough, they passed the cabins. Glancing at them, Jacob blushed when he remembered the past events. This is an interesting day he thought as they left the cabin area.

They quickly passed by all the other areas and soon were at the arena. Once there Nikkie ran in got her bow from its bench and run out. "Alright, now that that is done, shall we continue? The forest it is, isn't it? Oh, if you hear any weird noises ignore them. It's just the monsters," with that she turned to the forest and walked off. "You know for monsters they are quite tame, I think. They aren't anything like you'll face in the mortal world." Tipping her head to the side she thought for a moment. "Well, maybe to you, the may seem dangerous. I think it may depend on how many monsters you have seen and or fought. How many monsters have you fought?" she turned around for his answer to her question.

Jacob waited patiently as Nikkie ran into the arena to retrieve her bow. When she ran out, they continued to the forest. Nikkie advised that if he heard any noises, ignore them, as they were only the sounds of the resident monsters. Nikkie explained that the monsters were quite tame, and they would only seem dangerous if they had never been encountered before. When they neared the forest, Nikkie turned to him and questioned how many monsters he'd encountered. Jacob looked at her and answered "I never really kept track, but it was a lot since I've been on the road''. As they continued walking, he noticed a clearing. ''How about we stop here, then I'll tell you what I wanted to say'', Jacob exclaimed as he led Nikkie into the clearing.

Nodding, Nikkie said, "That's good. If you were to keep track of all monsters you have and will kill that would be a big number." Her faced scrunched up in confusion when Jacob broke off and went to a clearing, but she followed anyway. It was a just like most other clearings in the woods. The trees formed a think ring around it and the grass grew tall and wild. She went over to one of the trees and looked up at it. She could probably climb it, maybe she would come back some day for practice. "Alright," she looked back at Jacob, "what did you want to see?"

Jacob silently went over his plan in his mind as he and Nikkie entered the clearing. He confirmed it silently and swiftly looked around, making sure nothing was watching them. The plant life flourished, and Jacob, being a son of Demeter, instantly liked the spot. Slowly, he took a deep breath as Nikkie turned to him and questioned what he wanted to say. Jacob strode over to her, and exclaimed "I had noticed you had been a bit worried when we confessed our...feelings..to each other. However, I fully understand how worried and confused you are, heck, i feel the same. Since we're alone, I've decided to let my feelings show you. I apologize for what I'm about to do''. Slowly, Jacob reached out his hands, tilted Nikkie's head upward, and pressed his lips against hers.

Nikkie's eyes widen when Jacob kissed her. After a second of surprised she shoved him away. Not hesitating anymore she slapped him across the face. Her face was heated with surprise and anger. "You should be sorry! Relationship, okay. This? No way! You don't kiss someone you just meet!" Nikkie's fury shocked herself. "I'm thirteen! Not fifteen or sixteen! I'm-" she stopped suddenly. The redness drained from her face along with all her anger. Now she turned away in embarrassment and heavy guilt. She never had gotten mad at anyone. Not even during the Terrible Two's and Three's when most kids were at their most monstrous. Eye's on her moccasin's she turned back around. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, "you surprised me."

[Jacob Adams]

Jacob rubbed the spot where Nikkie slapped him. The sting really hurt, but he felt he deserved it. He stood silent as Nikkie's face burned with anger and surprise. She shouted that he should have been sorry, that a relationship was okay, but kissing was too rushed. Jacob hung his head, he really felt low. I can't believe I just did that, that's not like me at all. O man, I really messed up. Now she'll never think of going out with me Jacob thought silently as Nikkie's face started to cool down. He clenched his eyes shut, as he continued to stare at the ground. He noticed Nikkie turning around, and stating that she apologized because he had surprised her. Jacob continued to stare at the ground, silent. He felt he should respond, but his heart said the opposite. Fighting his emotions, Jacob continued to look at the ground as he said ''No, you don't need to apologize for anything. It's entirely my fault. I shouldn't have rushed you like that. I had only meant to ask you to be my girlfriend, but my emotions took over. I guess it's no use to ask you anymore''.

Nikkie hand's were in a prayer fashion and the tips of her fingers were pressed to the bridge of her nose. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, thinking of how to handle the situation without hurting feelings. "Forget it," she breathed out. "Forget the last few moments. Clean slate now. Why don't we just go shoot targets in the sand. That's what had been planned," she paused. It wasn't the best way to handle it, but it was the only way she could think of at the moment. Adjusting the strap at her shoulder, she took her bow over it and walked off to the beach, not knowing and partially not caring, if Jacob followed or not.

Jacob's eyes dropped for a split second as Nikkie suggested they go shoot arrows in the sand. I guess it's my fault she doesn't like me anymore Jacob thought as he sighed, took his bow, and followed her to the beach. As they were going back, Jacob had once again been in deep thought. However, this time around, they weren't pleasant.

How could I be such an idiot. For the first time in my life, I get a girl to like me, then I ruin it. All I had meant to do was ask her to be my girlfriend, and what do I do? I kiss her, right there, for gosh sakes she's only thirteen! Still..that was a good kiss...but how could I let my emotions get the better of me!? I'm pretty sure if I had only asked her those six simple words, then I wouldn't be in this mess. Now she probably thinks I'm the type of guy, who acts before thinking. I guess there won't be a future for us together. Jacob thought as he once again lowered his head in despair.

They cut through the forest and reached the beach quickly. Once there she drew a bull's eye in the sand then went to stand about thirty or thirty five feet away. Sighting it, took an arrow from her quiver, angled her bow upwards a bit and released the bow string. The arrow arced in the air before tipping forward and hurtling down to the center of the eye. Lowering the bow she smiled. "One for me. Your turn." some of her old friendliness had returned but she was still wary of his actions. She stepped back so he could take the spot she used to shoot from.

Jacob slowly rose his head as the cut through the forest and reached the beach. He started to set up his bow as Nikkie drew a bulls eye in the sand, a little ways length from where they were standing. He stepped back as she took an arrow from her quiver, angled her arrow, and shot it. Jacob's eyes widened as the arrow struck a direct bulls eye. Lowering her bow, Nikkie smiled and stated that she had one. Jacob smiled slightly as he noticed Nikkie's old friendliness returning. His smile then slightly disappeared as he noticed her still acting wary of his actions. Jacob felt his negative emotions trying to upset him again, but he tried to shrug them off. He stepped up to the shooting spot and slowly drew his bow and arrow. He closed on eye, and tried to ignore his guilt. He shot the arrow, and watched as it whistled through the air and struck the blue inner area. He nodded his head slightly and left the spot. ''Your turn''he stated as he took a seat on the sand, and thought about his past actions.

Taking her stance Nikkie prepared to shoot again. She glanced over at Jacob. He looked sullen, sorry, maybe ashamed. Nikkie wasn't terribly great at reading people, just good or bad moods. Feeling responsible, she decided to try to make him feel better. She sighed and hurried over to the bull's eye. She placed her arrow back in the quiver and took Jacob's arrow and shot it at him. It landed a few feet from him. "Come on, let's see who can empty their quiver first." She stood in her place, arrow notched and pointed downwards. "This is a competition is it not?" she asked.

Jacob broke his negative train of thought when he heard Nikkie place her arrow back in her quiver. Though he never looked up, Jacob noticed that there was no sound of an arrow flying. His question was soon answered when he heard an arrow being shot into the air. The weird thing was, the arrow seemed to be getting closer and closer every second. Jacob glanced up and noticed an arrow lodge itself into the ground, a few feet from him. He looked at Nikkie and heard her challenge him to see who could empty their quiver first. Jacob looked back at the ground for a few seconds, then quietly got up and strode over to where she was standing. He took out his arrow, notched it, and pointed it downwards. He heard her ask him "This is a competition is it not?". Jacob glanced at the ground, and then slowly at her. Although, one could clearly still see that he wasn't completely happy with himself. One could also see that his old positive self, was slowly starting to reassemble, although it would take some time. He sighed and answered, ''I guess it is''.

She smiled at the acceptance of the challenge then counted down. "3... 2... 1... Fire." Quickly her bow was up and the arrow was in the air. It hadn't even touched down by the time she got her second arrow out in the air. She settled into a smooth, practiced motion. Drawing, aiming, and shooting the recurve was second instinct to her and she ended sighting her arrows less and less, just concentrating on getting them out of the quiver. The arrows hit the target but not always the bull's eye. She slowed down a touch to focus on getting the arrows in the center. Reaching back for the next arrow her hands found none. All two dozen of her arrows were buried in the sand target. She lowered her bow to show she was finished

Jacob started pulling out his arrows and shooting them into the air. One after another, he kept using this pattern. Slowly he felt his quiver getting lighter every arrow. He tried to concentrate on the contest, but his negative emotions were still pulling him down. When he finished shooting off arrows, he turned and noticed Nikkie had already finished. Sighing he turned and looked at her, ''Looks like you won''. He tried to maintain a smile, but that frown found its way back on his face.

Nikkie's eyebrow's knit together when she noticed that Jacob was even more depressed. So that didn't work as well as I thought. She looked over at the target and doubted that even the news that he hit the center more then she did. "I have an unfair advantage. That being experience and being the daughter of Apollo." She studied him for a moment. He probably was upset about what happened in the forest. Whether it was because of his actions or her actions she couldn't tell. And for once, she didn't know how to cheer him up. She was immensely stunned still. "Look," she shouldered her bow, "If it is because of what I did back there," she gestured to the forest, "I'm not mad anymore. Well, I don't know if I was really truly mad or just stunned. Anyway, I sorry. You're depressed and I don't know how else to fix it. And I usually very good at making people feel better."
