GODS AMONGST MEN
As the world of men moved their prayers from the Gods and Goddess, Zeus was left with no choice but to order an "eternal sleep," the humans they looked over no longer needed their blessing or wrath, the Deities were no more then myth. Without the prayers of the humans the Gods would surely begin to fade and weaken, until they simply did not exist. In their eternal sleep they would remain in existence, just inactive. Not all the Deities went into slumber though, Zeus demanded that Hades remain in the Underworld for the souls of the dead cannot just rest, if there was no one to tend to the existing souls they would simply just escape and run wild amongst the living, and we can't have that now. So, Hades agreed to stay awake while his fellow Gods slept to conserve themselves.
In the underworld time passes rapidly, what seemed like only a year had actually been centuries upon centuries and in this time Hades had constructed a plan, feeling angered that he was "demanded" to stay in his realm, while the others rested comfortably. Hades and his Fiends would escaped the Underworld, and unleash the souls of the dead by making the River Styx run backwards. Hades had brought hell to earth, and with the Gods sleeping, there was none that could stop him. The souls of the dead scattered and were set free to do as they please, Hades and his Fiends did likewise. There was one location of earth that called to them, a place of sinful deeds and rash actions, Las Vegas. Hades' vision was to be King of this Earth, and his playground would be Sin City.
There was only one minor problem, the humans could not see Hades and his Fiends, they could not interact because they did not believe in the God of the Underworld.
It was then Hades decided that the only way to accomplish his vision, was for him to possess a human body. Hades and his Fiend army took the bodies of important figures, taking their souls and bottling them up in jars. Over night, Hades had taken over Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, all the Deities were fast asleep, all but one who awoken from his slumber.
The Messenger of the Gods, God of Travelers and Thieves. The troublesome God was always one to go against orders, over the centuries he had awaken and voyage down to earth for a bit of fun, never any harm done. However, when he awoke this time he saw something strange. As he peered down onto earth he saw the souls of the dead running wild, and Hades accompanied by his followers had began to possess humans.
Hermes hesitated to notify Zeus right away, seeing as it appeared that Hades was having too much fun, Hermes couldn't pass up a good time.
Hermes rushed down to earth to pay Hades a visit. At first, Hermes warned Hades, Zeus would not be pleased when he woke up. Hades seemed indifferent about Zeus awakening, instead Hades welcomed the thought of Zeus waking up. Hermes left Vegas shortly after to wake up his fellow Olympians. Zeus was waken first, when he heard the news of his brothers actions, the sky opened up and Las Vegas was hit with thunderstorm like never before, however, it was apparent that Zeus was not at his full strength. As the other Olympians and Deities woke, their outrage was heard on Earth.
Hermes informed them that the only way they could stop Hades was to go to Earth and take human forms. Hades was using the human as a vessel, kill the vessel and Hades becomes weak. Zeus was opposed to the thought of possessing a human body, taking their souls out, but for the greater good he could not refuse the idea. He would was forced to play his brothers game. Zeus enlisted the help of any that was willing, Olympians, Titans, even some Primordials that had been asleep for ages.
Many spirits also volunteered, though they didn't actually intended to do much in the whole war of Gods, boredom and the idea of being human was just too good to turn down.
Zeus army of Gods rushed down to earth, grabbing the first souls they could get ahold of. Many of the Gods picked young people, capable and useful. Other picked people of power, some just grabbed whatever they could find. The Gods and Goddesses had made their way to earth and were now living amongst the humans. While trying to hunt down Hades, they also had to attempt to maintain a "regular" human life, trying to avoid suspicion or bring too much attention to themselves.
Keeping a low profile can be difficult for some of the gods, with their powers and particularly "odd" personalities, a human life can be anything but a simple life.
