Other family:
- Nicolette d'Auvergne, mother
- Talysus Winchell, twin sister
History:
Nicolette d’Auvergne was a barista in a Paris café when Hermes walked in. Tired from a day of being the messenger, he planned to casually stop into this chic little café for a cup of coffee and be on his way to Olympus. He strode and waited at the back of the line.
Finally, he got to the front and promptly forgot what he was there for when he saw the woman who was supposed to take his order. The woman forgot she was supposed to take his order when she saw the man in front of her. Nicolette, who was never really in a quite right mind, asked him out on the spot. Hermes was so flustered he said yes before he'd had time to consider.
They were together for eight months. Then, once Hermes found out that Nicolette was pregnant, he told her who the children were and ran off. A month later, Nicolette went goth. Eight months after that, she gave birth to Hermes' twins, and named them Talysus and December.
Nicolette...is very uptight. She was not mother-material. She neglected the girls and left them with a nanny, whom they called Miss Wendy, every day. Miss Wendy paid their private-school tuition for their first-grade year. They were kicked out.
After getting kicked out of school after school, Nicolette confided in Miss Wendy. Miss Wendy knew that Nicolette was not right in the head, and didn't believe her. Nicolette told her why they were getting kicked out and had the girls show Miss Wendy some magic they had found they could do. Scared, Miss Wendy quickly arranged for the girls to be sent to Camp Half-Blood.
They were sent to Camp at age twelve and were claimed a mere week after their arrival, at the same time. After that, they made lots of friends and barely spent any time together, considering they were complete opposites. [From Tal’s history by Maria]
December, always the popular, well-behaved child who made friends easily and fit in anywhere, suddenly found herself in a place where she should belong, but didn’t. Her whole life, she had been working towards somekind of goal or other: getting away from the tense ‘home’ where she hated her mom and ‘nanny,’ getting high enough grades for a chance at a scholarship to a decent collage, keeping her twin from getting into too much trouble from pranking, and on the whole, just working steadily towards making a name for herself.
But then, suddenly, her goals had disappeared. The house of anxiety and stress was as far away as a dream, collage wasn’t even an option, her twin was now a cabin leader and responsible for herself, and after camp, she could practically do anything she wanted!
This disoriented her somewhat, but after a while living at camp, starting to ease in to her new life, December learned to relax some more and enjoy the freedom she had. Most of her hours are spent just chilling with and making new friends, making herself look good without making it look like she was trying to make herself look good (if that makes any sense), and day-dreaming about plans for the future.

Personality:
Though like most children of Hermes December enjoys pranking in small degrees, in all other respects she is as different from the typical daughter of the messenger god as could be. For one thing, she very much cares about her appearance and the clothes she wears. Fashionable and extremely pretty beyond a doubt, this child of Hermes is often mistaken for a daughter of Aphrodite.
However, one thing Em is not, is a snob. She can make friends with just about anyone, and that’s not an exaggeration. While most of the time she hangs out with friends her age and gender, she can easily make friends with others and has a great memory for faces and names. Practically the only way to get on her bad side (which isn’t really bad; she just ignores you) is if you get on the bad side of Tal. Despite their social separation, December is fiercely loyal to her only other blood-relative in Camp.
If you really, really tick her off, though, beware and be prepared. Pranking real enemies is something Em has absolutely no qualms about, and when motivated by cool, calm anger, she can twist a practical joke into a torture tool.
Normally, she’s not that cruel, though. December isn’t too big on children or immature boys; nevertheless, she’ll nicely tolerate the kids and also put up with the immature boys, unless they get too immature. Then she’ll slap them. And Em’s slaps hurt!
It’s in her nature always to plan things through and be deliberate about things, though. Impulses mean danger and being manipulated to Em, and she will not be manipulated for the world.
5 likes:
- Pranking; though she’s not as good as her sister and doesn’t do it nearly as often, December has a genius for creative, harmless, but extremely embarrassing pranks which she especially enjoys playing on snobby children of Aphrodite, who irk her to no end
- Shopping; it’s not just those children of the goddess of love who can be beautiful, dress right, and shop for hours without loosing stride
- One-upping the snobby children of Aphrodite that she hates; it’s like, her lifetime goal to just show them up in fair ‘fight’
- Sentimentalists; though she’s not one herself, Em enjoys watching them
- Maturity; in everything and everyone
5 dislikes:
- Hurrying; don’t get me wrong, Em can make herself look like a star in five minutes flat, but she just doesn’t like people to rush her and will often go slower when pressed by others
- Pretty Snobs; snobs are bad enough, but snobs that also have some justification in being snobs are just intolerable to December
- When her sister pranks too much and occasionally gets into trouble; she frets a lot about getting kicked out of camp
- Immature boys
- Strawberries
Fatal Flaw: Fear of snakes
Friends: Basically almost everyone.

“Excuse me?” Arms awkwardly twisted into a rather painful position keeping her unpinned hair in place, December tried to turn around. “Tal? Is that you…?” More painful arching ensued. “Oh—Ouch!” Again she tried to maneuver into a position where she could see the speaker, but failed. “Just a minute…”
Quickly, the harried cabin co-leader fixed up the last strands of thick hair to her satisfaction. Tightly-bound braids framed her face, pinned neatly to the back of her head and covered by a circlet of more twisted hair. For a minute, December approvingly surveyed her simplistic outfit in the mirror: a royal purple cardigan over a lacy white blouse and ripped jeans shorts—the perfect combination of elegant style and casual ease.
“There,” said Em, rising gracefully from her seat and turning to face her twin. “That was one of the boys. They’re waiting for me outside; the lake party—” Trailing off abruptly as she noticed what her sister was wearing, the daughter of Hermes gave a distressed yelp. “EEP!” December had to work hard to restrain the urge to cover her eyes from the nightmare before her: a Tal-outfit.
“Sister dear, what in Tartarus are you wearing?” Oh, she could see for herself alright: faded tank top, sports shorts, and loose hairs… the typical muddle only her sister could scare up. But once upon a long time ago, Em had figured out a useful fact: the more shocked she acted at her sister’s ‘style’ of dressing, the more likely it was Tal would change into something more tasteful.
Not that she wasn’t utterly shocked; no matter how many times the nightmare appeared. It was beyond December’s reasoning how any blood-relation of hers could be so indifferent to dress techniques! Then again, twins were supposed to be opposites so they could support each other on different occasions.
That reminded her of Tal's breakdown. Which reminded her that she needed to talk to Tal. Which reminded her that she said she would be out in three minutes, which would be up in thirty-four seconds. "Crap. Don't move, Tal, I'll be right back."
Taking three quick strides to the door of the cabin, Em opened the door just enough to call out, "Erm, go ahead without me. I'll be down in..." She took another glance at her sister and finished her sentence. "An hour or so. Maybe less."
Then she whirled about again and sat down, making no pretence of wanting a casual chat.
